Kahawa House | Arusha
Kahawa, Swahili for coffee, is a relaxed, homely lodge on the edge of Arusha, a short drive from the town centre. Rooms are en-suite, and meals are served on a deck overlooking the pool.
Day 1
Wednesday 29 September. Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. After passport control and customs, your safari guide will meet you at the arrivals gate and take you to Arusha for dinner and overnight at Kahawa House.
Day 2
Thursday 30 September. Spend the day at Kafika House, getting to know Sarah Rejman (CEO), the team and the children. Experience the daily rhythm and learn how it all works, with lunch at Kafika House. In the evening, Sarah welcomes the group to her home for dinner.
Koroi Forest Camp | Arusha National Park
Arusha National Park is set against the spectacular backdrop of Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest peak, with the lost-world Ngurdoto Crater and the multi-hued Momella Lakes within its 552 km sq.
Koroi Forest Camp lies hidden in thick forest at the base of the mountain. It's named after the Maasai word for the black-and-white colobus monkeys that live there, and its eight chalets overlook an open glade that draws wildlife, or a quiet seasonal stream.
Day 3
Friday 1 October. After breakfast, depart with a packed lunch and drive to Longido, where you'll visit a traditional Maasai family's homestead and learn about life in rural Tanzania, where most of Kafika House's patients come from. Later in the day, continue to Koroi for check-in, dinner and overnight.
Day 4
Saturday 2 October. Enjoy a full day of wildlife viewing and game drives in Arusha National Park, including a guided forest walk. Return to camp in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.
Olkeri Camp | Randilen
Randilen is a 327 km sq community wildlife management area, designated by the Maasai, on the north-eastern edge of Tarangire National Park. In early October, at the height of the dry season, wildlife gathers around the few remaining water sources, especially the Tarangire River Valley.
Olkeri, the Maasai name for the leopard, sits among baobabs, acacias and rocky hills that are home to great elephant herds, with the freedom to explore by day and by night.
Day 5
Sunday 3 October. After breakfast, drive back through Arusha for a morning at Kafika House: another chance to spend time with the children and the team. In the afternoon, continue south to Randilen and check in at Olkeri Camp for three nights.
Days 6 & 7
Monday 4 October: a full day of wildlife viewing in and around Tarangire. Tuesday 5 October: explore the bush on foot on a guided walking safari, then head out after dark on a night drive to see the area's nocturnal wildlife.
Olmara Camp | Eastern Serengeti
The acacia-dotted plains of the eastern Serengeti are unspoiled, silent and remote from the busier central Serengeti, and famed for cheetah: this is among the best places in the world to see big cats.
Olmara Camp's eight tented suites sit in a grove of acacias overlooking the Ngare Nanyuki river valley. The camp is unfenced, so wildlife moves freely, and the surrounding granite kopjes make a dramatic backdrop for walking safaris.
Day 8
Wednesday 6 October. Transfer to Kuro airstrip for your scheduled flight to the Serengeti. On arrival, your safari guide will meet you and take you to Olmara Camp for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive, dinner and overnight.
Days 9 & 10
Thursday 7 & Friday 8 October. Full days of shared game activities offered by Olmara. Your guide and camp manager will talk you through the options and suggest the best programme to suit you.
Day 11
Saturday 9 October. Fly from the Serengeti to Arusha, where a vehicle will take you to lunch at Katambuga House. After lunch, you'll transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your international flight.
